Hyvää äitienpäivää! - Happy Mother's Day!

Vietin viikonlopun vanhempien luona. Tänään tuli äitienpäivää juhlistettua isolla porukalla ja grillattuakin tuli sateesta huolimatta. Annoin äidille tekemäni 3D-kortin ja lahjakortin allekirjoittaneen "neulepajaan", eli äiti voi itse tilata haluamansa neule- tai virkkaustyön minulta.

I spent the weekend with my parents. Today we celebrated Mother's Day and even had a barbecue despite the rain. I gave my mom a 3D card I made and a gift certificate which entitles her to one knitted or crocheted item made by yours truly.

Tässä viimeiset tekemäni sytomyssyt. Laskeskelin, että yhteensä tein niitä parikymmentä. Niihin tuli kyllä välillä ihan himo, alkoi vain miettimään erilaisia malleja ja sommittelemaan värejä. Ja mukavasti niihin meni lankakorien uumeniin jääneitä puuvilla- ym. lankoja. Nyt on kaikki myssyt lajiteltu ja pakattu huomista lahjoitusta varten. Saas nähdä, miten saan ne kuljetettua, kun en omista autoa, voin olla näky kun kuljen kaupungilla kolmea isoa pussia raahaten...

These are the last chemo hats I've made. I calculated that I've made around 20 altogether. I became a bit obsessed about them for a while, I just thought about different patterns and colour combinations. It was a good way to get rid of small skeins of yarn that have been left over. Now I've organised and packed all the hats for tomorrow. Let's see how I can get them to the hospital, since I don't own a car. I might be a sight carrying three big bags through town tomorrow...

Muhun on nyt iskeny kunnon kortti- ja askarteluinnostus. No, vaihtelu virkistää. Löysin Tiimarista ihanan syksyisen korttisetin ja sitä ja vanhoja varastoja käyttäen tein muutaman kortin. Olen mukana Postcrossingissa ja noita kortteja voisi lähettää myös sen kautta.

I've been bitten by a card and craft bug, it seems. Well, it's fun for a change. I found a nice card set from Tiimari that had an autumn theme, so I made a few cards using the set and some of my old material. I'm sending cards through Postcrossing, so I can used these cards in that too.

Luin viikonloppuna Kate Jacobsin Pienen lankakaupan. Olen sen jo kauan ajatellut lukea, mutta nyt peräti muistin sen kirjastossa käydessäni. Se oli mukavaa luettavaa, alkuosa oli kivan kevyttä ja viihdyttävää, lopun tapahtumat tulivat vähän turhan lähelle omaa elämää viime aikoina. Siitä on ilmeisesti tulossa elokuva ensi vuoden puolella.

I read The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs last weekend. I've been meaning to read it for a while, and now I finally remembered it when I was in the library. It was nice reading, the beginning was light and entertaining, but the end came a bit too close to the things that have happened in my own life lately. I've heard that a movie based on the novel will be released next year.

Olen jo kauan suunnitellut ompelukoneen ostoa, ja ylihuomenna aion nyt lopultakin käydä sellaisen ostamassa. Olen ajatellut jotain hyväkuntoista käytettyä, ompelutaitoni eivät ole niin hyvät, että kannattaisi ostaa mitään kallista uutta konetta. Onko teillä viime hetken vinkkejä hyvistä merkeistä ym.?

I've been planning to buy a sewing machine for quite a while now, and now I'm finally going to buy it. I've been thinking to buy a second-hand machine that is in good condition. My sewing skills are not that good so it's not worth buying an expensive new one. Any last minute tips about the brand or something else?

Kortit pöytään - Cards on the table

Jostain syystä neuleet edistyvät tällä hetkellä hitaanpuoleisesti. No, kai se on luonnollista ettei koko ajan voi samaan tahtiin paahtaa menemään. Kävin tänään Sinooperissa ostoksilla ja innostuin askartelemaan kortteja. Tarkoitus oli tehdä vain yksi tai kaksi, mutta teinkin sitten kerralla vähän useamman.

My knitting is slow now for some reason. I guess it's natural that things slow down sometimes. I went shopping in a craft shopt today and made some cards. I first planned to make just one or two, but I got carried away.
